The sitemaps.org 0.9 schema
The normative grammar for a sitemap — the one that says changefreq has eight permitted values and priority is capped at 1.0.
Every constraint the sitemap protocol imposes is in this file, in a form a validator can apply. It is short enough to read in a sitting, and it settles arguments that the prose protocol leaves open.
Our own sitemap checks deliberately do not implement all of it; validating against this schema is what catches the value-level mistakes.
